FISHING IN THE HARBOR

Last new year’s eve my family joined some other families on a fidhing trip at Greenwich harbor to welcome the new year. We went fishing so we could stay up late. On our way to the harbor, we bought some beef mince at the butcher’s. We used the mince as bait. My parent’s friend brought the fishing rods for us to use. When we got to the harbor, some families were already there. We wera a bit late because we tried to find our way to the harbor and got a bit lost. We started a fishing competition. We agreed the whoever got the mosh fish would keep all the fish caught that night. Apparently, no one caught any big fish. We caught mostly small yellowtail fish. After fishing for nearly three hours, my mom got the most fish. All the participants gave all their fish to us. We came home with a bucketful of fish. It was not bad at all. The next morning, we enjoyed some fresh fried yellowtail fish with steamed rice for breakfast. That was very special because we had never had fried yellowtail fish for breakfast before.

Five – Footed Bear

Once upon a time there was a strange bear who lived in a jungle. He had five feet. But all animals who lived with him didn’t feel strange. The five – footed bear liked to help other animals. His home was open for anyone who wanted stay.

One afternoon, when the five – footed bear went home, he found a rabbit under a mahogany tree. The rabbit looked hungry. Then, the five – footed bear brought him to his home.

The next day, when the five – footed bear was looking for meal, the rabbit helped him clean up the house. While the rabbit was working, a monkey and a mouse deer came quietly. They pretended to be robbers. They wanted to distrub the rabbit.
The rabbit was frightened. The monkey and the mouse deer tied up the rabbit’s legs and plugged his mouth. Fortunately the five – footed bear came and released him. The rabbit was upset because the bear wasn’t angry with the monkey and the mouse deer. In fact, the five – footed bear let them live in his house.

On the next day the monkey and the mouse deer asked the rabbit to forgive them. They helped him clean up the house. In the evening when the bear was coming home, he brought them meals and a new friend. The monkey and the mouse deer were very afraid knowing who the new friend was. He was a tiger, but the rabbit wasn’t afraid. The tiger was one of the rabbit’s best friend. The monkey and the mouse deer didn’t know it. The monkey and the mouse deer were very embarrassed. That was the cleverness of the five – footed bear. He wanted to make them aware of their bad habit of frightening the rabbit. Then they sat and enjoyed their dinner together.

The Flora and Fauna of Sumatra

Sumatera is famous for its animals. It’s wildlife is more varied than any other island in indonesia. Sumatera contains 176 different mammals, 194 reptiles, 62 amphibians and 150 different birds. Orang – utans, rhinos and wild pigs are found only in the north of the island. The tapir and certain species of monkey are found only in the south of the island. North and south, wildlife survives because the sumatran like animals. You can see tigers, bird, and strange animals painted on becak and signs all over the island.

The sumatran jungles support a great range of plant life. There are trees such as the ketapang, which are over 60 meters in hight, vines called “wait a minute” have thorns that can catch people as they walk in the forest. The corpse plant is over two metres high and smells or rotting meat. The amazing rafflesia grows on the west coast of sumatra. The flower grows to one metre in width and it is the largest flower in the world.

In recent years, forest fires have destroyed a lot of sumatra’s forest. The governments are trying to stop the destructiob of our forest. Let us hope they succed, sumatra without its forests would not be a nice place.

Natural Resources

The materials which are supplied by the earth, that is, by nature, are called natural resources. Some natural resources can be used again. They are called renewable resources. Other natural resources can be used only once. They are called non renewable resources.

Some areas of the earth have been supplied with a lot of certain natural resources. Others naural resources can be used only once. They are called non renewable resources.

Among our natural resources are fuels as coal and oil. Precious materials such as gold, silver are natural resources too. Copper is natural resource. The minerals come from the inside of the earth. Gold, copper and silver are minerals. The salt we use to flavour our food is a natural resource. Our food, too, for example rice, is supplied by nature.

The important part of the earth’s surface provide many of our natural resources. We get pure water from lakes and streams. Water is our natural resource. We get wood from our forest. Wood is a natural resource.
Air, too is a natural resource. In fact, it is one of our most important natural resource. We’ll die without air to breath. In some cities the air has become polluted because cars and other motor vehicles emit gas that mixes the air. Step are now being taken to make the air clean.
